Mapping the Society of the Chinese Gods: Social Network Analysis and Divine Assemblages in Early Modern China

Friday, November 15, 11 a.m.

Zoom or Girvetz 2320

Presented by the East Asian Center

Vincent Goossaert, professor of Daoism and Chinese religions at EPHE, PSL, and co-editor of T’oung Pao, will talk about his paper. He will examine how Chinese gods are seen as having individual personalities and how they interact socially and with humans. And, the different rituals developed over a long period in China enable the Gods to be seen as distinct beings with personal identities, though there has been some opposition to this idea. East Asian Center sponsors this event.
