The Media Arts and Technology Program (MAT) at UC Santa Barbara is presenting its End of Year Show 2018, a celebration of the year’s research in electronic music, emergent media, computer science, engineering, and art. The theme for this year is Invisible Machine, which represents the way that transformation is jumpstarted through the Media Arts.
JoAnn Kuchera-Morin, MAT professor and director of the Allosphere research group, says that the MAT conducts research to make the invisible visible, “to bring those things that one cannot see and one cannot hear into our domain of being able to see, to hear, and feel and touch them.” Its artists use technology to combine the arts and sciences, seeking to create new pieces that transcend the way that we currently understand our world. The End of Year Show exhibition will take place on June 1, 2018 in the California NanoSystems Institute on the second floor of Elings Hall. A concert featuring digital soundscape artists will take place on June 2, 2018 at SBCAST, 513 Garden St, Santa Barbara.
